FoodWiz is an innovative AI-powered B2C application poised to transform home cooking into a delightful experience. Its cutting-edge technology empowers users to craft a plethora of culinary masterpieces effortlessly. Currently in its inaugural development stage, the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) is actively in progress.
The primary objective is to provide users with the capability to commence cooking their chosen recipes without unnecessary interruptions or interactions, delivering a professional cooking experience infused with enjoyment and fun.

Responsibility

In the design of this feature, my primary focus is on ensuring a superior user experience. Currently, the feature is undergoing development and characterization phases, with the ultimate aim being to deliver a straightforward and highly effective user experience to our users.

Business Goals

Added Value

Implementing Cooking Mode sets FoodWiz apart from other recipe applications by addressing a specific pain point for home cooks: the need to refer to recipes while cooking without interruptions. This feature can serve as a unique selling point, attracting new users and retaining existing ones who value seamless cooking experiences.

User Engagement

Cooking Mode encourages users to interact more with the app during the cooking process, as they can access and follow recipes hands-free or with minimal interaction.

Enhanced Retention

Offering a Cooking Mode feature that aligns with users' needs for uninterrupted cooking experiences can contribute to higher retention rates. When users find the app easy and convenient to use, they are more likely to continue using it regularly for their cooking needs.

Data Collection

Cooking Mode usage provides valuable data on user behavior and preferences during the cooking process. This data can be analyzed to further refine and personalize recipe recommendations, improve the application's usability, and tailor future feature developments to better meet user needs.

CHALLENGES

Problems & Solutions

1.

The process can be frustrating and boring

FoodWiz, like its users, often lacks enjoyment in cooking, especially those with limited time and culinary knowledge. To improve this, I sought solutions. Consulting culinary experts, I learned that creating the right ambiance is crucial for fostering enjoyment. Many stressed the importance of atmosphere in the process of cooking.

I suggested adding a playlist feature to enhance the cooking ambiance. Music can inspire and relax, making the process more engaging. While competitors lack distinctiveness, this software stands out for its potential and value.

2.

Screen Interactions

Cooking tasks can make using screens messy. To solve this, we suggest adding an auto-scroll feature to recipes, reducing the need for manual input while cooking.
I propose an automated rolling screen for minimal user involvement while cooking. Users simply pause or resume scrolling. Future interactions may be possible, but users can handle these before starting the recipe.

When & Where

Tablet (34%)   |   Mobile (48%)

In my research, I analyzed data provided by the BI department, revealing that 34% of Foodwiz users access the platform through tablets, 48% through mobile phones, and 18% through computers. Based on this insight, it's evident that a cooking mode feature would be particularly pertinent for mobile device users. I initiated the design process by focusing on tablet devices, aiming to optimize screen space and explore additional functionalities for the feature's initial release.

One of the indications is that users will make use of the feature when preparing a quick meal.
Career people and students often have busy schedules, leaving them with limited time to prepare the meal. The cooking mode feature can be valuable when they need to quickly access recipes and cooking instructions on the go or between other tasks.

Another assumption is that students, for example, will use the feature when cooking in small spaces.
College students, especially those living in dormitories or small apartments, may have limited kitchen space and cooking resources.
The cooking mode feature can provide them with efficient guidance and assistance in preparing meals in compact kitchens.

Measure
Success

  • Time Saved:
Calculation of the average time saved by users when using the cooking mode feature compared to traditional cooking methods. This metric demonstrates the efficiency and effectiveness of the feature in streamlining the cooking process.

  • Conversion Rate to Premium Features:
FoodWiz offers premium features or subscription plans, measuring the conversion rate of cooking mode users to premium users. A high conversion rate indicates that users perceive value in a feature and are willing to pay for additional functionality.

  • Error rate:
Tracking the occurrence of errors or interruptions during the cooking process, such as missing ingredients, incorrect instructions or technical problems. Striving for a low error rate to ensure a smooth and seamless cooking experience for users..

Features in
one feature

In the Cooking Mode feature research, I asked users what drives them to use it. Many want cooking to be relaxing, enjoyable, and quick. Therefore, I designed features to make cooking easier.

Music Playlist

To enhance the cooking experience, I conceived and designed a music player tailored to complement the apricot preparation. Users can choose their preferred music genre to play while cooking. Looking forward, there's room to enhance this feature with additional functionalities.

Setting Timer

To enhance user precision and evoke a professional kitchen ambiance, I crafted a timer sub-feature. This function allows users to activate the timer and ensure precise execution, meeting deadlines with ease.

Duration Speed

The primary aim of this feature is to minimize interruptions for users during cooking. Given that recipes can often be lengthy and intricate, Cooking Mode addresses this by minimizing screen interactions. Users have the flexibility to adjust the display duration of the recipe, ensuring they can focus on their culinary tasks with minimal distractions.
